ARTSY FARTSY: pretzel time

I'll admit, this is more of a cooking project than an art project, but I like when things like that overlap a bit, don't you? Captain, Chunk and their friend made really delicious soft pretzels the other day. It was very easy and they boys were able to alot of it themselves. I got the recipe at allrecipes.com. We halved the recipe because eating 12 soft pretzels would most definitely cause belly aches. I let the kids make their pretzels any shape they wanted - notice the letter shapes above! We ate ours with cheese dip (Ragu jarred cheese sauce) like in the mall. This was fun, messy and yummy!

When my brother and I were little, my mom used to let us have a little bit of cookie dough when she was baking. We each got a pie tin and we got to sit on the floor and shape (play) with our dough and then bake our cookie.

They were always super thin because the dough was runny from all the oil on our hands and being played with before baking.

But we remember it to this day and how much fun it used to be to sit in the kitchen while mom baked and to watch Scarecrow and Mrs. King on the little black and white tv.

Baking is always a favorite around here. Haven't tried pretzels yet but now I'm inspired! I figured they would be too difficult.
