GET WED WEDNESDAY: maya myers photography

There are wedding vendors, and then there are passionate artists that happen to specialize in weddings. I can tell you for absolute certain that you want the latter for your wedding. This is true whether you are looking at florists, caterers, stationers, musicians or photographers. Someone who has chosen their career because they love their art are going to bring something amazing to your special day.

Such is the case with Los Angelas based photographer Maya Myers. What I find really interesting about Maya, and what I think makes her images a cut above, is that she isn't just a wedding photographer. She photographs special events for private and corporate clients, editorial assignments, and individual projects with Non-Profit organizations in Los Angeles County. Currently, Maya is working on an independent project photographing at-risk teen girls, and is working with Venice Arts, Org. on a photography project empowering homeless and mentally challenged women. What, you ask, does this have to do with your wedding day photos? Lots. Because photographers who only work with weddings rarely bring anything fresh to the job. Your wedding photos will look like everyone else's. Photographers who split their time across varied assignments have a more expansive perspective and approach, making your images truly unique.

Lots of wedding photographers claim to have a "photo-journalistic style". Maya is one of the only ones I've seen that actually does. The images feel truly intimate. Tiny, important moments are captured. Take some time to visit Maya's website. You will not be disappointed.

This is exactly how I found my photographer, thank goodness. She's about the only photog in town that seems to actually enjoy her work.
