THE WORLD WE LIVE IN: devic's disease

My friend Jasmine is a runner. She runs 5Ks and marathons. I've always been in awe of the dedication and perseverence displayed by long distance runners. Jasmine has dedicated her marathon training to her mother, who suffers from a very rare autoimmune neurological disorder called NMO or Devic' Disease. Devic's is a nasty disease that attacks the optic nerves and spinal cord, often causing blindness and paralysis. There is no known cure for Devic's and because it is such a newly identified disease, treatment options are very limited.

I encourage you to visit Jasmine's running blog. It is very inspirational, celebrating her mother's grace and strength in the face of this disease. Knowing her mother Patti personally, I can attest to this. She is a wonderful, optimistic and generous woman; she is truly an inspiration.

If you find the writing and the story as inspirational as I do (and you will) please consider donating to the Guthy-Jackson Foundation. They are devoted to research for prevention and treatment of NMO. Every penny of your donation goes to NMO research and is tax deductable.

Additionally, from now until Marh 20th (the day of Jasmine's next marathon) Tulaloo is sponsoring a fundraising effort for NMO/Guthy-Jackson Foundation. Proceeds from the sales of all note card sets in our online store will be donated to Guthy-Jackson in honor of Patti Lellock. Notecard sets range in price from $8 to $12. Please consider purchasing a treat for yourself or a friend and supporting this worthy cause.
